HPSPNA “Home of the Month” Recognition Program

The HPSPNA “Home of the Month” program celebrates homeowners who go above and beyond in maintaining their property, fostering goodwill, and enhancing the beauty of our community. This program, run entirely by dedicated HPSPNA board member volunteers, highlights exceptional lawn care and overall curb appeal.

Each month, the Home of the Month Committee selects a property that exemplifies uniqueness, beauty, and consistency with the program's guidelines. Evaluations focus on the front and side yards, as well as the exterior of the house, with an emphasis on "curb appeal." Winners will receive a decorative yard sign for display, along with recognition and a photo on our community website.

Guidelines

  • Eligibility: All residential properties in Prospect Park and Southland Park automatically qualify.

  • Selection Criteria: Judging is based on overall yard appearance, including a well-manicured lawn, beautification efforts, originality, and creativity.

  • Award Term: Winners hold the title for one calendar month. Properties cannot win more than once in a 12-month period.

  • Maintenance: Winners are expected to maintain their yard's appearance throughout their recognition month.

Judging Criteria

Candidates are evaluated on the overall exterior appearance of their property as viewed from the street, with key considerations including:

General Yard Upkeep

  • Lawns should be healthy, mowed, edged, and trimmed, free of bare spots and weeds.

  • Foliage must be pruned, shaped, and tidy.

  • No debris, garbage, or pet waste should be visible.

Landscaping and Flower Beds

  • Beds must be weed-free, edged, and neatly maintained.

  • Dead plants and flowers must be removed, and trees and shrubs pruned.

  • Natural areas should be clean and appealing.

Walkways and Driveways

  • Walkways and driveways should be clean and free of debris, with trash containers and yard tools out of sight.

  • The area in front of the curb must be tidy and well-kept.

  • After-dark aesthetics, such as accent lighting or visible interior lighting, may be considered.
